Fat transfer moves fat from an area where you have some to spare, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs, to an area that has lost volume or needs shaping. Common treatment areas include the hips, buttocks, hands and uneven contours after liposuction. The donor area is slimmed at the same time.
Fat is first removed by gentle liposuction from an area where you have some to spare. It is then purified so that only healthy fat cells remain, ready to be placed in the treatment area.
The fat is injected in many small amounts through tiny entry points, building volume in layers so it can establish a blood supply and survive in its new place. Some of the transferred fat is naturally absorbed over the first few months; what remains is permanent.
On the hands, fat restores fullness over visible veins and tendons. On the hips and buttocks, it softens hip dips and adds shape. It can also smooth dents or uneven areas left by previous liposuction or injury.
